Deciem Review: The Ordinary Collection | 2018

Wednesday, December 26, 2018

Welcome Back!

I hope you guys had a fun and fulfilling holiday! I wanted to finish this year off strong with a brand review! When Jake and I went to Toronto for our anniversary trip, we stopped by the Christmas  Market in the Distillery District. They had so many pop up shops, as well as permanent stores. As we were walking through the market, I couldn't help but notice Deciem which is a permanent shop in the district. The stunning store front caught my eye immediately. If you've been following along for a while, you know that I like simple minimalistic style, neutral colors, and clean lines. As you can see below, that's the exact aesthetic of the store.

All of the products were beautifully displayed on wood shelves and on the tile tabletops like the above picture. I was most excited to see they carried a line called "The Ordinary". They sell it here in the states at Sephora, and a lot of my favorite bloggers have been raving about it. When shopping for makeup, I love seeing the products in person before buying it so I can test them out so I was loving the fact that they had samples set out of every single product. They also had their staff at stations helping consumers with color matches, and overall information about each product which I thought was super helpful.

They even had sinks for consumers to try out their other lines that included soaps, and scrubs. I didn't try these out because I was with Jake, and I didn't want to bore him even further by trying out hand soap! haha. (he's the most patient for letting me shop and take pictures for this post).

I picked up these three products to try out.

After using this every day since we purchased it, I have seen a dramatic change in my skins texture and tone. All the bumps and red spots are GONE. I'm super surprised that such an affordable product is helping my skin this much. I have only worn makeup once since our trip, because I don't need to since my skin is looking so good!

This solution is my favorite so far. It's a caffeine solution that is supposed to get rid of puffiness under the eye and rid of hyper-pigmentation. I'm super happy with the results! It truly does lift and brighten the purple tones under my eyes. I put this on before eye cream as its not meant to hydrate. I made the mistake of wearing it alone, and it was a bit drying. But keeping that in mind, it should be no problem if you keep up with moisturizer.

Lastly, this the was the product I was most excited to try! One of my favorite YouTubers @KathleenLights raves about this super affordable primer. It a silicone primer, so it's meant to blur out your pores, and smooth out any fine lines and wrinkles. I tried it only once on Christmas Eve, and  I can already tell that I love it. It kept my makeup on all day, and created a beautiful canvas for my foundation. I can't wait to use it more!

I loved the branding, the PRICE, and most importantly the product inside! Overall, I was extremely impressed, and I cannot wait to try more from this brand. If you haven't already, head on over to my last beauty interview with Rachael as she has mentioned another one of their products there!

As always, Thanks so much for reading!

Monthly Beauty Series: Get Ready with Rachael Allyn from Harper Kate & CO

Sunday, December 23, 2018

Welcome Back!

For this month's interview I chose Rachael Allyn from Harper Kate and Co! A boss babe single mom who runs her own handmade bow company. I started this monthly series as a way to showcase REAL women. Women who work full time, who are busy being moms, and have relatable lives. I hope you love this series as much as I do! Keep reading to learn how Rachael fits her makeup routine into her busy days!

Hi! I’m Rachael, and I am probably the least qualified person to be sharing anything makeup related for actual makeup gurus, but I am so honored to be on Little Budget Beauty!

I’m an almost 30 year old (30 is the new 20) single mom usually in bed by 8 watching Grey’s Anatomy or Friends reruns for the 482nd time so I guess you could say a live a pretty wild life. I love makeup, but my execution in applying makeup is questionable so I usually stick to simple, easy stuff!

What is your every day beauty routine (AM/PM)?

AM:
•Wash face
•Enjoy zero personal space from toddler
•Spray Dermalogica Breakout Clearing toner on face

•Moisturize
•Apply makeup

(I stay simple with Milani 2-in-1 foundation, a little bronzer, neutral eye shadow, mascara, and brows)

PM:
•Wash face
•Moisturize
•Roll Rosehip oil on face and neck with jade roller (I love The Ordinary brand - inexpensive and good quality!)
•in colder months or if my face is dried out I roll on The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid on for extra moisture!

What is the one product you could never live without?
Mascara! And moisturizer. And some sort of something to even out my skin tone (tinted moisturizer at least). Oh and tweezers. Definitely tweezers because those brows can turn into a singular one…. I’m bad at the “one thing” questions!😅

Lipstick, or Lipgloss?
Bare Minerals Matte Liquid Lipstick is my go to. I love the color Slay for an everyday look and Scandal is my favorite dark color if I’m feeling sassy.

Liquid or Powder foundation?
Liquid! I used to use NARS, but switched recently to Milani 2-in-1 and love it just as much, and my bank account loves me for it! The coverage is great, and it isn’t cakey!

Liquid or Pencil Eyeliner?
I rarely wear eyeliner these days, but I use a NARS pencil eyeliner when I do!

Falsies or Mascara?
If you could only see me putting on falsies😂 Mascara. Definitely mascara for me.

What is one beauty tip that you would like to share with everyone?
Wash your makeup off every single night! Put makeup wipes by your bed for the nights you don’t want to!

And the right color foundation is key🙌🏻 (I told you I was bad with the tell me one thing questions)

What is your first memory when it comes to makeup?
Silver eyeshadow. Why are middler schoolers these days contouring instead of wearing silver eyeshadow?

What is your favorite part of your routine?
The ending😂 unless I have an endless amount of time I am usually rushed putting makeup on so I am generally happy for the end of my routine.

If you could have anyone do your makeup, who would you have?
Brad Goreski! (@bradgoreski on insta) I know he’s more of a stylist than makeup artist, but I freaking love him.

Thanks so much for following along with Rachael's routine. Give her a follow on Insta (@harperkateandco), to keep up with her business and beautiful daughter Harper Kate. Seriously guys...she's the MOST beautiful little girl.

As always, thanks for reading.

5 Things to Gift a Beauty Lover | 2018

Sunday, December 2, 2018

Welcome Back!

This year I wanted to do something super fun and helpful. I have compiled five quick and easy to find products for the beauty lover on your gifting list! If you don't know a lot about makeup or beauty products it can be hard to buy them for someone who does. These AFFORDABLE products are perfect for secret santa, stocking stuffers, or last minute ideas for the beauty lover. Keep on reading to see what I've picked out!

1. Batiste Dry Shampoo:
First up we have my favorite dry shampoo. This has been tested to be a holy grail of mine. This brand also has a tinted version for blondes, brunettes, and red heads so it doesn't leave a white cast in your hair. This can be found at most drugstores, I usually get mine at Ulta.

2. Smith's Minted Rose Lip Balm:
This was a random find of mine that hasn't left my side since! I love rose scented anything, so this was a perfect mixture of rose and mint to give my lips that tingle. It truly moisturizes the lips like no other lip balm I've found. Ive been using this for a about 6 years at this point and I haven't found anything as good as this guy. I purchase this at Sephora in the mini section by the registers. Its about 6 or 7 dollars.

3. Hand Cream:
Any beautifully scented hand cream will do. I try my best to keep my WHOLE body moisturized all year around but it gets especially tough come the winter time. I'm constantly washing my hands so I love to keep a hand cream in my purse at all times. The hands always get super dry during these cold months so this will be put to good use by the beauty lover in your life!

4. Simple Micellar Makeup Wipes:
I chose to include this specific kind because these are the best affordable wipes I've tried so far. Any makeup wipe that you find should do the trick, but this specific kind comes soaked in product which makes it easier to take off a full face of makeup. Makeup wipes can be super expensive depending on how often you wear makeup, so this would be a super easy but thoughtful gift for the beauty guru in your life.

5. Body Lotion:
Last but not least, body lotion! Just like makeup wipes, if you use it every single day, the cost adds up quickly. I love this Vaseline brand because it is super moisturizing and smells amazing. A super cute and seasonal brand to get would be Philosophy as well. A bit more expensive, but they always come out with super cute holiday scents!

\\
The holidays are always my favorite time of the year. Giving gifts is one of my favorite things to do, but its also important to stay aware of the fact that it's not what is most important. Comment down below if you'd like me to do another gift giving guide, but with high end stuff!!

As always, thanks so much for reading.

A Year Of Favorites | 2018

Sunday, November 4, 2018

Welcome Back!

Wow. Can you believe we are creeping up on the end of 2018? I've heard a million times that as you get older it seems that life goes by faster and faster, and now I understand why! I'm so thankful that I've been given this small platform to share what I love with all of you. I can't wait for all that is to come in 2019, and I hope you guys stick around to share it with me.

I tried so many AMAZING products this year, so I decided to do a break down and pick only one item from each category to create "A Year of Favorites". I figured I would publish this a little before the end of the year so you still have time to add these to your personal or gifting list!

(I will be listing all the products in the order I put them on to make it easier to follow, and easier for me!)

Moisturizer
Garnier Skin Active Moisturizer
I've talked about this guy here before when posting my skincare routine on Instagram. I picked it up on a whim, and immediately fell in love. Its super emollient so you only need to use about a dime size amount on your whole face and neck. The smell of rose isn't too overpowering, and it truly plumps my skin like no other moisturizer has and it looks beautiful under makeup!
You can find it, here.

Eye Cream
Juice Beauty Eye Treatment
I have been on the search for an eye cream that actually made a different under my eyes. This is the first one I have seen a substantial difference. All of the creams I have tried all keep the under eye hydrated, but none of them made a difference in my dark circles or little wrinkles. This has done a great job slowly getting rid of the lines under my eyes as they look less prominent and more smooth. I don't think this will get rid of my lines completely but it definitely helping with the appearance of them AND the color of my dark circles is getting gradually lighter.
You can find it, here.

Primer
Becca Firstlight Priming Filter
I tried this primer off of the recommendation of @Kathleenlights on YouTube. If you aren't watching her videos, you should be. She is super relatable and uses a TON of drugstore makeup. Although this primer is a bit more expensive, I would say that this is worth the money! I've posted about this primer again and again, but there's a reason WHY. This primer can be worn alone or under makeup to give your skin a dewy and brightening effect. My skin-type is normal/combination so I'm not sure how well this works with oily skin as it is pretty hydrating and dewy. (something to keep in mind always when reading beauty blogs, or watching youtube videos. what works for an influencer, might not have the same effect on you so do your research before purchasing!)
You can find it, here.

Foundation
Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Foundation
I know, I know. You've seen my posts about this too but this is favorites post right? I cannot get enough of this foundation. I would have to say that this guy slid right up to my number one favorite foundation of. all. time. I'm talking over all other drugstore AND high end foundations. The color selection is amazing for drugstore foundation and the lasting power is unmatchable for the price. This gives the most gorgeous satin finish that I've seen in a full coverage foundation, and leaves the skin looking natural and healthy.
You can find it, here.

Concealer
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer
This has been a long time favorite of mine. The first time I tried this concealer was around 3 years ago when I first moved to Buffalo. I remember getting color matched at Ulta and her talking me into both the foundation and concealer. I tend to switch out products A LOT due to my psycho tendencies, as well as running this blog. I keep coming back to this one when I want dewy full coverage. Although I love shape tape, it can be a bit heavy and drying if applied too heavily so this is a great alternative!
You can find it, here.

Setting Powder
Too Faced Born This Way Ethereal Setting Powder
If you scroll all the way back to my first post ever "All About that Base", you will see that this guy was included. This powder is on the higher end as far as cost, but the quality shows. It is a super long lasting powder, and it sets EVERY single foundation beautifully. It is translucent meaning it does not have color or coverage which I love because that's when it starts to look "cakey". It also comes in three different "tones" so all skin tones can use it!
You can find it, here.

Highlighter

Anastasia Beverly Hills x Amrezy Highlighter
THIS. FREAKING. HIGHLIGHTER. This formula is like nothing I've ever tried. This highlighter has absolutely no fallout what so ever. Although it is a powder, it applies like glass on the cheeks with the most beautiful & natural sheen. An added plus? It looks gorgeous on every single skin tone.
This was limited edition, but they just announced that they will be bringing it back 12/7 in stores.
(Ulta, Sephora, Macy's)

Eyebrows
Covergirl Micro-Fine + Define Pencil / NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel
Finding these two alternatives changed the game for me! (and kept my wallet more full). I loved the Anastasia brow wiz, and their clear brow gel, but between the two it cost me over $40. These two cost LESS than $20. The brow pencil is the perfect dupe for the brow wiz, and the color is spot on for my brows. The NYX gel isn't as long lasting as the ABH gel, but it does the job!
You can find the Brow Gel, here.
You can find the Brow Pencil, here.

Eyeshadow

Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette
This became my favorite palette after the first use. Being a neutral girl, this has been the best every day palette. I use Orange Soda / Burnt Orange, and Rustic every day in a different way. This is the perfect palette for when you want a natural look, or when you want to take it to the next level with color! If I could recommend one palette for the rest of time, it would be this one!
You can find it, here.

Mascara
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
Stop what you're doing and go add this to your cart. I have straight lashes, I mean PIN straight. They stick straight out unless I use a lash curler. This mascara is the ONLY mascara the keeps my lashes curled all day long. On more natural days, I wear the brown mascara. For my night time looks, I use the black mascara. Its so dark, it can be a bit overwhelming for my personal taste for daily use (but beautiful none the less).
You can find it, here.

Setting Spray
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
Last but not least, we have the best setting spray on the market. I still remember the first time I used this setting spray. I went over to my friend Erin's house to get ready for Halloween one year (the year of the mermaid). Erin has an older sister, and a mom who both LOVE everything beauty so she got introduced to makeup earlier than I did. My mom and sister don't really wear makeup, so going over her house and seeing her makeup, and her skills was SO fun for me. All I remember about my actual makeup from that night is waking up the next morning with all of my makeup on, and it STILL looked perfect. I was shocked. I think that was the first time I realized my interest in makeup products. So not only is this the best setting spray, it also holds sentimental value to me. (lol).
You can find it, here

Alright guys. THAT WAS A LOT. If you made it all the way down here you're the real MVP. These products that I shared with you are the ride or die products I use every day, and I hope you get to try them and love them just as much. As always thank you SO much for all of your support and reading all of my posts it truly means the world to me. Comment down below your favorite product of all time!

Until next time,

Becca

Monthly Beauty Series: Get Ready with Lifestyle Blogger Colleen O'Connor-Yappueying

Wednesday, October 24, 2018

Welcome Back!

I know, I know. This past month I slacked HARD when creating any content for my blog itself. Although I've been active on Instagram, I've missed just sitting down and creating a post about makeup. I have an amazing post on its way, but in the mean time, I am bringing you this month's beauty interview!

This month I chose another woman that I met through the Buffalo Blogging Network. I met her at the first meet up I ever went too, and we clicked immediately. Another strong willed, and opinionated woman coming your way! (watch out men). I love Co and all that she stands for. Keep on reading to learn about the beauty routine of a fellow blogger, dog mom, wife, and content creator!

Hi, I'm Colleen (pronounced Co-Leen cause I'm cool). I run a Life and Style blog called Co . Curated - you can catch the relaunch of my blog on November 23rd, which is also my birthday! My life has always been about art, so you will find a lot of that on both my Instagram and blog. I have a degree in Art History and a Master's in Business Design and Art Leadership and have been painting since I was five years old. Also at age five, I became insanely obsessed with dachshunds (aka wiener dogs)... honestly don't ask me why I just woke up one day and never stopped talking about them. You can usually find me at home, cooking or baking, hanging out with my husband, our senior cat, Cleonie, (she's 17 and has dementia... she's fun!), and our two-year-old dachshund, Agnes, who is named after one of our favorite artist's Agnes Martin.

What is your every day beauty routine (AM/PM)?

AM:
First things first, I dragged myself from the bed and make a cup of tea. I almost exclusively drink black teas but if I'm feeling super healthy I might go for a green tea or matcha latte. Once I eat some breakfast (honestly, whatever breakfast crap I have around at the time), I brush my teeth and shower. In the mornings I use St. Ive's Energizing Coconut & Coffee scrub, followed up with Mario Badescu's Acne Cleanser. After my shower, I also use Thayer's Witch Hazel Toner and Neutrogena's Oil-Free Facial Moisturizer. Then I move on to makeup and I wear a full face every single day. Here's a basic breakdown of what I use daily:

Primer: e.l.f. Poreless Face Primer
Foundation: either Colourpop No Filter Foundation or Maybelline Fit Me Foundation - applied with a beauty blender
Concealer: ALWAYS Colourpop No Filter Concealer (beauty blender)
Contour: Wet n Wild Mega Glo Stick Bronzer - blend with a flat foundation brush
Bake: Coty Airspun powder is my favorite right now
Bronzer: Colourpop Afternoon Delight pressed powder bronzer - apply with a fluffy bronzer brush
Blush: Colourpop Prenup super shock blush - apply with a fluffy blush brush
Highlight: Obsessed with Colourpop Wisp super shock highlighter - apply with my fingers
Brows: Honestly, I just mix my own dark brown powder with eyeshadows... oops? - apply with a small angle brush
Eyeshadow: Whatever palette I'm feeling that day, honestly I mix and match all the time.
Mascara: Milk Makeup Kush Mascara - worth every penny.
Setting Spray: Mario Badescu setting spray (I have one of each scent... so whatever I wanna smell that day!)

PM:
Evenings are super simple. I wash my face with the SheaMoisture African Black Soap with Shea Butter bar which usually gets most, if not all of the makeup off my skin, if there's some eye makeup left I'll use the Garnier Micellar Water on a cotton ball to remove it. Depending on if my skin is oily or dry (I have combination skin) I'll decide whether or not to use the Thayer's toner again. Then I apply my Neutrogena moisturizer, brush my teeth, apply Johnson's Bedtime Baby Lotion (don't knock it til you try it), and usually, I will add in some extra Lavender essential oils or CBDs. Then I hit the hay homies.

What is the one product you could never live without?
Nivea Shea Daily Moisture body lotion. I apply it all over after every shower and have been using this brand for probably ten years. It's oil-free and non-comedogenic, which means it won't clog your pores, it's gentle enough I can use it on my face if I'm feeling extra dry. My mom always told us growing up that no matter what you gotta put lotion on. My skin is soft, healthy, and appears a lot younger because I started this habit as a kid.

Lipstick, or Lipgloss?
Hmm, that's a hard one. I love Colourpop's Crème Lux Lipstick, it's so light but also heavily pigmented.

Liquid or Powder foundation?
Liquid, 100%

Liquid or Pencil Eyeliner?
Again, 100% liquid all the way (I love Eyeko's Fat Liquid Eyeliner. I have been using the same one for literally 3 years (don't @ me, I'll get a new one eventually) and it's still as true black as day 1.

Falsies or Mascara?
Mascara... for me falsies look, false.

What is one beauty tip that you would like to share with everyone?
Honestly, what my mom taught me... MOISTURIZE EVERY DAY! Yes, I did yell that at you. No, I'm not sorry.

What is your first memory when it comes to makeup?
I've been experimenting with makeup forever but I can remember vividly being a little kid (like 6-8 years old) and locking myself in the bathroom to play with my mom's makeup. It was the 90's so yes, she had the most amazing eyeshadow and eyeliner colors. I would come out to show my mom and she would just say "Oh, wow, don't you look nice... you didn't ruin my makeup did you?"

What is your favorite part of your routine?
Eyebrows... hands down. I have pretty thick brows but once they're filled in, I feel like my face is completely transformed.

If you could have anyone do your makeup, who would you choose?
Carli Bybel. I have been watching her on YouTube since she started like seven years ago. She is so beautiful, has an amazing personality and can beat a face like no other!

Thank you so much for letting us take a peek into your world Co! Go ahead and give her a follow on Instagram to keep up to date on all things lifestyle related! (@co.curated).

Stay tuned for the next post coming up soon! (It's probably my favorite post to date)

As always thanks so much for reading,

Becca

Boxycharm Subscription | What is it all about? Boxycharm is giving us MORE?!

Wednesday, August 29, 2018

Welcome Back!

I wanted to do a specific post all about a monthly makeup subscription box Boxycharm, that I have been subscribed to for about two and a half years. If you follow me on Instagram you have probably seen my IG stories of me unboxing and breaking down the subscription. I have mentioned before that I have always been pretty happy with the box every since the first month of being subscribed. Of course when signing up for something like this there will be some products that you are not 100% into, or some products that simply aren't going to work for your skin type, but Boxycharm is pretty good about curating universal boxes, and I've never felt the urge to cancel because of one bad product. Boxycharm started small, but are now including brands like Tarte, Becca, Smashbox, and more!

A little more about the subscription:

The subscription box includes FULL SIZE products, unlike Birchbox (currently subscribed), and Ipsy (cancelled). Instead of paying ten dollars for the smaller sample sizes, you pay twenty one dollars total for four to five full size products, sometimes even six! I am always excited to see what they curate, because getting new products that I wouldn't necessarily pick out is always fun and can inspire me creatively to step outside of my comfort zone.

They just recently released that they will be offering MORE to us "charmers" if we upgrade to Boxy Luxe! Boxy Luxe will be quarterly deliveries of ELEVEN full size products. So every three months, you will get charged fifty dollars instead of the twenty one, and you will receive the original box, plus six to seven more full size luxury products. They will be dropping BoxyLuxe on September 1st, and I will absolutely be signing up. I will definitely follow up with you guys on those boxes as well because I am pretty much freaking out about it! They have already released some of the spoilers down below 👇👇👇

I hope this answers your continuous questions on the box! I truly believe in this subscription being worth it for makeup lovers on a budget.

As always, thanks for reading.

Becca

Monthly Beauty Series: Get Ready with Buffalo Blogger Queen Nickel City Pretty

Sunday, August 12, 2018

Welcome Back!

I am so excited to bring you another monthly interview. Lindsay from Nickel City Pretty has been on my list since I curated the idea in the first place. I discovered her through hashtags when I decided to start my blog back up. I quickly realized she had been the founder of the Buffalo Blogging Network, which I am so proud to(now) be apart of. She is the definition of a Boss Babe while working full time, running multiple blogs, and being the Boss behind the network. I am truly thankful to have met Lindsay, and all the opportunities that I have been given from doing so. Read all about how this boss babe tackles getting ready for her busy schedule!

Hey there! My name is Lindsay and I run the lifestyle blog Nickel City Pretty. Makeup has always been a huge part of my life.  I first discovered the power of makeup in middle school, and knew that I someday wanted to pursue the makeup artist field.  In 2006 I attended The School for Professional Makeup in Toronto and received my license in Makeup Artistry and Airbrush.  Currently, among having a full-time marketing job at Perry's Ice Cream and running the Buffalo Blogging Network, I am a freelance makeup artist and mainly do weddings, but I've also done makeup for photo shoots and fashion shows.

What is your every day beauty routine (AM/PM)?

AM:
I rinse my face with super cold water (my mom has always told me to do that every morning and she looks great so why not!) and moisturize with the Imperialis moisturizer from Lush.  I use a lot of makeup on a daily basis, so here goes nothing!  I have two foundation routines: spring/summer and fall/winter.  In the spring and summer I do not like wearing a lot of foundation.  I use my favorite tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12 Hour Primer as foundation- it's super light and has SPF in it which is a must for sunny summer days.  In the fall and winter I use NARS Sheer Glow foundation...always applied with a kabuki brush for flawless coverage.  Concealer is always the same- tarte Shape Tape.  I bake my concealer and powder my face with Kat Von D's Lock-It loose setting powder.  Eyeshadow is next, and I've always been a MAC girl, but lately have been also using a lot of Juvia's Place...the color payoff is great and it's really reasonably priced. I like to always switch up my eyeshadow colors depending on my mood.  For eyeliners, I use Kat Von D's Tattoo Liner in Trooper or I'll actually use my Anastasia Dipbrow as liner.  I've found that drugstore mascara is way better than the expensive stuff, and my favorite at the moment is Loreal Voluminous Lash Paradise.  I then use the Anastasia Dipbrow on my brows, and I have to draw them in every. single. day. as I over plucked in high school and they turned into a hot ass mess.  I clean up my brows with MAC studio finish concealer and then move onto lashes.  I tend to wear lashes every day, and my brands range a lot.  I like to go more subtle for daytime and super dramatic for night.  Some of my favorite brands are Kiss, Killa Beauty and Flutter Lash. Next I contour with the Anastasia contour kit, use MAC blush, and highlight with Jeffree Star Skinfinish...Ice Cold is my personal favorite.  Seal everything in with Urban Decay's All Nighter Setting Spray and I'm good to go!  Wow, I'm exhausted just thinking about how much I put on my face haha

PM:
I remove all of my makeup with Neutrogena makeup remover cloths, then sometimes use a face mask, sometimes use the Clarisonic to deep clean, tone my face with Eau Roma Water from Lush, and use my Lush moisturizer again.  My lips tend to get dry at night so I'll also put on a layer of my trusty Burts Bees lip balm.  I really don't do that much for skin care and I'm shaming myself right now because I'm 35 and really should invest more in my skin!

What is the one product you could never live without?

Lipstick, or Lipgloss? Lipgloss- I don't like wearing a lot of heavier lipsticks!

Liquid or Powder foundation? Always liquid- powder makes me super dry.

Liquid or Pencil Eyeliner? Liquid

Falsies or Mascara? Falsies!

What is one beauty tip that you would like to share with everyone? It's not so much as a beauty tip as more of a life tip- don't let anyone tell you that you should wear more or less makeup! I've had so many people tell me that they prefer me with less makeup, and you know what?  I DON'T LISTEN.  I love my look and makeup brings me such joy and is my creative outlet.  Nobody has the right to dictate how you should look!

What is your first memory when it comes to makeup? In middle school, my mom took me to Clinique to get my very first makeup products.  They were, of course, very soft and neutral, but this was the gateway that started my love of makeup and beauty.  Soon after that I was slathering on the body glitter and red lipstick, and the damage had been done.  The "no makeup look" was never really my thing!

What is your favorite part of your routine? I think seeing the total transformation after my look is complete.  Since I do use quite a bit of makeup, it's cool to see my face kind of transform in a way.  Also, after I draw on my eyebrows, all gets right with the world.

If you could have anyone do your makeup, who would you choose? Omg definitely Katie Ambrose from Groom Service.  I look up to her SO much and she's a total badass artist.  Love her!!

Thanks so much Lindsay for being apart of my interview, as said before you were a huge inspiration for this concept! Go give her a follow on IG @nickelcitypretty to keep following along with her blog, gorgeous photo shoots, and overall "bad-assness"? is that a word?

Until next time,

Becca

Heat Proof Primers | 2018

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Welcome Back!

Today I wanted to share with you the primers that have been helping me beat the heat this summer. On these hazy hot days we've been having I usually skip the makeup all together but sometimes we have events where we just don't want too. Your best friends wedding, your cousins bridal shower, we all have our weekends full of important events during the summer season. These three primers have improved the longevity of my makeup on the days I need it to last all day.

(Disclaimer: I do have normal to dry skin, so these might not work for someone with oily skin)

First up, we have the Becca Cosmetics First Light Priming Filter. It is a color neutralizing primer with a natural finish and it helps tackle the look of dullness while brightening your complexion. It is super hydrating, and helps your makeup last all day long. It comes out of the jar violet, but it applies sheer. Sometimes I even wear this without makeup for extra hydration and brightness. You can find it, here
(Free of Parabens and Sulfates)

Next we have the dr. brandt Pores No More Luminizing Primer. This one adds a beautiful dewy look to the skin, while smoothing out the look of pores. I don't have huge pores to fill in, but it truly does help with smoothing the look of my undereye, and the pores that I do have on and around my nose. I apply this to my forehead, my nose, my upper lip, my cheeks, and chin. It truly does help the makeup stay in all of those areas, and it leaves my skin looking healthy and fresh. I received this in my Boxycharm and have been using it ever since. You can find it, here.

Last but not least we have the NYX Hydratouch Primer. This primer is the most affordable of the primers mentioned today. This is another color neutralizing primer with chamomile and green tea to brighten the skin. I love these types of primers because they truly do make a difference in your skin before applying makeup. Without a great base, your makeup isn't going to look the best it could. If you've been following me for a while, you know how important skin care and prep is for makeup performance. I apply this all over my face and neck to get a nice and even base. You can find it, here

Hopefully this helps some of you beat the heat, so you can enjoy your events without having to worry about your makeup. The last thing I'd like to mention is to load up on the setting spray. I do a couple layers when I truly need it to last for more than 8 hours.

As always, thanks for reading.

Welcome Back!

For this month's interview I chose someone who has been one of my biggest supporters out here in Buffalo. I met Hailey through the Buffalo Blogging Network, and we hit it off immediately. She is wise beyond her years, and is truly passionate about many things that she shares with us over on her blog. Scroll down to find out how Hailey incorporates her beauty routine into her super busy schedule.

Hey, hey! I’m Hailey. When it comes to beauty, I like to take the “less is more” approach. Less coverage, less hassle, and most importantly, less money which is why I love Little Budget Beauty! I’m working on being more comfortable in my own skin, so I have been obsessed with skincare lately, but I also really appreciate the confidence a tiny bit of blush can give! Ever since I was little, I have loved all things beauty, so I’m really glad to be chatting here. Thank you, Becca, for having me!

What is your every day beauty routine (AM/PM)?

AM:
I try to only use cold water on my face in the morning, but sometimes I go in with a Cetaphil bar of soap for a quick cleanse. I follow up with my moisturizer by First Aid Beauty. It’s super light, and it smells good too!
I use a couple of different foundations, but my go to choices right now are the Neutrogena healthy skin foundation and the Maybelline fit me foundation. They are very inexpensive and give a very pretty natural glow to my skin.
I use the Maybelline fit me concealer which is actually the dupe for the NARS radiant concealer (about a $20 savings,) and the fit me translucent powder. I use a Maybelline blush, bronzer, and brow pencil after that. I didn’t realize how much Maybelline I used up until this moment, but I guess that means I like it?? I really like to try new mascaras even though I don’t always wear it. They are always from the drugstore. This whole routine probably only takes me 12ish minutes!

PM:

I take my makeup off with a Cetaphil bar of soap, and then I use the First Aid Beauty moisturizer again. I keep it super simple because my skin is very sensitive. On the nights I’m feelin’ fancy, I like to use the Kiehls midnight recovery serum. These days, I’m still playing trial and error with what works for me best in the evenings.

What is the one product you could never live without?
Blush. I think it's the most fun. There are so many different shades and I love how they complement everyone differently. I’m not super girly, but I do love the way it makes me feel cute, flirty, and pretty whenever I put it on the apples of my cheeks! I usually go with a rosy pink in the summer and a mauve tone in the fall.

 Lipstick, or Lipgloss?
Ok- hear me out. I love lipstick, but I never wear it. I think I am scared of the whole lipstick on my teeth thing or its that I don’t want to deal with the hassle of going to the bathroom to touch it up. There are a lot of days I say “I’ll wear lipstick tonight,” and then I chicken out. Maybe I will tonight? Who knows.

Liquid or Powder foundation?
Liquid. My skin can get very dry, and I don't really like the way the powder clumps up on it. Dry skin girls, you feel me??

Liquid or Pencil Eyeliner?
Neither. That’s a step I gave up. I really try to get my makeup done quickly. Plus it’s a pain to take off most of the time!

Falsies or Mascara?
Honestly, I really really hate both! I have contemplated the idea of lash extensions, but I know they kill your natural lashes. I would love to try a lash lift and tint.

What is one beauty tip that you would like to share with everyone?
This might sound silly and maybe everyone knows this already, but I ALWAYS use a wet q-tip with a little bit of soap to get the foundation off of my lips after I finish my makeup. It is so easy, and it comes right off. It’s a fun last step to reveal the pretty pink under my foundation color!

What is your first memory when it comes to makeup?
I had the smallest, dirtiest, little compact leftover makeup items (gross) from my mom’s makeup bag. An old rosy pink blush and a brush for powder that was probably never cleaned, and of course the pink and green mascara. You know the one, right? The only one you can buy in the checkout line in the grocery store. I felt very, very cool.

What is your favorite part of your routine?
The q-tip trick. i’m telling you, it’s the BEST.

If you could have anyone do your makeup, who would you choose?
Oh gosh, if Tess Christine could do my makeup for one day, I’d be the happiest. She does her makeup so naturally glows and neutral. I couldn’t get my eyeshadow to look like hers if my life depended on it. I NEED to know her tricks.
