My 3 Must Have Deserted Island Products | 2018

Monday, March 26, 2018

Welcome Back!

As you can tell by the title, I thought it would be fun to share with you guys what I would "need" if I ever got stranded on a deserted island.

Think about it.

If you had to choose only three products, would you be able too? It took me about a week to decide which products I would "have" to have, but I am 100% confident in my choices.
I based my decision off of what I usually use when I don't wear any makeup, and that made it much easier.

I've mentioned a few times before that I usually don't wear makeup to work during the week unless someone important comes in, so this is usually my "go to" most days. Especially if I'm running late.

First things first, I would be lost without my moisturizer in normal every day life. This one was probably the hardest because I'm pretty sure that if you are seriously stranded on an island, you're going to end up looking like a leather purse anyway, but either way this guy has SPF 15 that will give you SOME sort of protection.

This is my second bottle that I have purchased of this specific moisturizer, and I love it because it truly does give a brightening effect, and makes my skin look super plump, and youthful.

You can find it, here.

Little Tip:
If you use a moisturizer with SPF in it, you want to make sure you wash it off at night no matter what your routine is. SPF can be comedogenic, and could cause you to break out.

For the second product, it would have to be brow gel. I still wear this on days where I don't wear any makeup to keep my brows where I want them.

Brows are so important, and most of the time overlooked. When using this on no makeup days, It makes me feel that much more put together if my brows are "set" in place.

I usually use Anastasia Beverly Hills clear brow gel, because lets just be honest it's the best around. But, this NYX control freak is the closest dupe that I have found to ABH at less than half the price.

You can find it, here.

Last but not least, I would absolutely need lip balm. It doesn't really matter to me what kind, just something to keep my lips from turning into the Sahara. I have lip balms everywhere. One in my car, one on my dresser next to my bed.

This Minted Rose balm is always in my purse for on the go and at work. You can find it, here.

I always have lip balm on, its one of my things. It might be the number one product for me if I could only choose one to keep forever. I have been moisturizing my whole life. My grandma (who i spent a lot of time with during my childhood), would always make me lotion my body after showering or taking a bath. I hated doing it when I was little as you can imagine any child would, but I'm super uncomfortable on days when I forget, or run out because my body is super dependent at this point 😂

Make sure you comment down below your 3 must have products,
I'm super excited to see what you guys will choose.

As always, thanks for reading

Current Favorite Highlighters | 2018

Sunday, March 18, 2018

Welcome Back!

I am here today to share my current favorite highlighters. Just within the past couple of years, highlighting has taken over the makeup industry. Highlights can be worn super natural, or can be applied so blinding they can see you from a planet away. I typically wear super natural makeup, and I use makeup to enhance my features. With that being said, I also am very careful of where I am putting the product. It emphasizes skin texture so you have to make sure you have the proper placement. Highlight is supposed to be placed on the face where the sun/light would touch your face to create a natural looking glow. The following products are the ones that I have been reaching for the most.

Anastasia Beverly Hills x Amrezy Highlighter- $28.00

I know. A lot of you are thinking, thirty bucks for a highlighter? I questioned myself at first, but once I received it from Ulta, I knew I made the right choice. It is such a subtle, beautiful gold. I received this only about a week ago, and it has quickly become one of my favorites and I don't see that changing any time soon. They knocked it out of the park with this one. You can find it, here.

PUR cosmetics Bronze & Brighten Palette- $34.00

I received this on my monthly Boxycharm subscription, and to be honest I did not expect to be reaching for it. The bronzer is SO shimmery and it at first turned me off from the whole palette. I find myself reaching for this guy for the highlight and blush. The blush is SUPER pigmented, so you have to use a light hand when using. The highlight is a gorgeous white gold color, and it is perfect for my skin tone. Afterglow is available here in a single pan for $25.00.

E.L.F x Heart Defensor Highlighter Palette- $8.00

To be completely honest, I purchased this one because the color names are Coffee & Cream. How freaking cute is that? I love mixing these two together or just wearing the Cream color separate. The Coffee color would look stunning on deeper skin tones, as it has a gold base. It also could be used on lighter skin tones as a shimmery bronzer, or eyeshadow. The formula is amazing for both of these shades. You can find it, here.

Wet & Wild Ombre Blush in Mai Tau Buy you a drink- $4.99

This guy was marketed as a blush, but when mixed on a brush it gives you a tiny amount of gold shimmer. I bought this on a whim because my target had it on sale for $2.50. I use this mostly for an inner corner highlight on natural days, but sometimes as a base for my other highlights because this has a super smooth and ethereal formula. You can find it, here.

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I love a good highlight. I think it helps make me look fresh and youthful if applied correctly and I don't think I can ever go back to not wearing any. My favorite highlight of all time is not pictured above because I am currently out of it at the moment, but it is Becca's Champagne Pop. You can find that, here
I hope me sharing this with you, helps steer you in the right direction to your next favorite product!

Custom Blend Foundation Review: Motives Cosmetics | 2018

Sunday, March 4, 2018

Welcome Back!

I'm here to talk to you today about my experience with Motive Cosmetics, and everything that went along with getting my foundation customized. I met Shauna (of @ShaunaLouise84 on IG) at Resurgence Brewery at a Buffalo Boss Babes pop-up shop! I was there having a few drinks celebrating a friends big move to Seattle when I realized that there were many different booths that were open to shop! Shauna is a graphic designer with extreme talent, and while taking a look at her work, we got to talking about my blog. She mentioned to me that her mom sold cosmetics and blended custom foundations. Without hesitation I asked for her mother's information and got it touch.  I had never heard of anything along the lines of custom foundation, so Kathy and I made plans to meet at her home in West Seneca to get "custom blended".

When I arrived, she took me down into her studio in her basement and sat me down to start the process. She gave options for extra additives like sunscreen, "Hydrator" and "Fringe Benefits".

Hydrator: Helps restore moisture to dehydrated skin, recommended for normal to dry skin.

Fringe Benefits: locks in moisture and swells the molecular structure of the blend to help plump and diminish the appearance of fine lines and aids in restoring the skins' natural radiance and youthful glow.

After she explained the additives, I obviously wanted them. As I have mentioned in some of my posts I have normal to combination skin. There were no extra charges for these additives, so it was a no brainer.

She chose my base color as beige and a drop of ivory. I made a mistake by going there with a fresh spray tan, so we added the bit of the ivory color to make it touch lighter to hopefully match my skin after the spray tan wore off. (I don't get them regularly, so for me it was a mistake. If you get them regularly, you would want to go with a fresh tan to get color matched to the tan!). She then went on to determine the tones in my skin which were green, yellow, and pink (pretty neutral). We decided on a light to medium coverage that could be build-able. She then mixed everything together, applied their primer, and applied a light layer of the foundation with a brush. We were all shocked at how closely she matched it to my skin color.

Things that really attracted me to this foundation:
Pure Mineral Bases Used
Non-Comedogenic (will not clog pores)
Paraben Free

Overall, it took about 30 minutes or so for the whole appointment. Kathy made me feel comfortable and explained a lot of background information about the company itself. I did not know this going in, but this brand works kind of like an Avon, Mary Kay, as it has a catalogue and can only be purchased through a distributor. The foundation is 45 dollars, and you are given a bottle the size of 30ml, or 1.0 fl oz which is pretty common for foundation. If you bring your bottle to the next visit, you get 5 dollars off you next purchase which would make it 40 dollars for the foundation.

I purchased this foundation on January 27th, and have been wearing often since then to make sure I gave it a fair shot. This foundation matched by skin color beautifully even after the spray tan wore off. The coverage is more on the light side, very sheer and dewy (because we made it that way). I tried it with both a beauty blender, and a brush. The beauty blender soaked up most of the product and it took A LOT, of product to get the coverage I was looking for. The brush was a much better way  to go. It applied the foundation much more evenly and took way less product to do so. This is not a long wearing foundation. It probably lasts about 5-6 hours only, but I personally do not need my foundation to last more than that. If you are looking for fuller coverage, she can definitely do that for you. I'm assuming all she would need to do is take out the some of the additives to make it a bit thicker.

Overall, I would say that this foundation is for more mature skin, as it really helps with fine lines and wrinkles, and has skincare built into it. My skin looks healthy and "glowy" when wearing it. This foundation is perfect for people that have a lot of trouble matching their foundation! Sometimes even in the Sephora or Ulta lighting it can definitely be hard for someone to match you. Another thing that I have found after many years of wearing foundation, is that there is no perfect shade in any foundation for you. Most cosmetic companies focus on undertones, which is what you want, but they can be a little overpowering at times. That's when you run into issues with a foundation being too yellow, or too pink. With this foundation, you will not have that problem.

Locals, if you are interested in getting Kathy's information, feel free to shoot me an email at or send me a message on Instagram.
